This has been an important development for SEO experts and site owners. Because generally, these algorithm updates were not announced beforehand. SEO experts and site owners would have been informed of the update through the dramatic rise and fall of their site’s Google search result pages.
So why has Google announced this update beforehand? Google explains this move as an effort to fulfill the wishes of those interested in their site’s position in search results. Google says it meets the society’s expectation of “being more proactive about big changes”. Google Search Service consultant Danny Sullivan says there are no “big” updates specifically compared to previous updates. Sullivan states that Google’s goal is to inform SEO experts and site owners in advance.
So What Exactly is Kernel Update?
In many people’s minds lies the question that Google has already gone through many algorithm updates each year, and what is the difference between this update. This question can be answered simply as follows; Penguin, Panda, Pigeon etc. we encountered in previous periods. Updates were issued to fix certain bugs in Google algorithms. For example, in the Penguin update, the goal was to fix spam linking, and in Pigeon, to prevent local SEO spam. In short, each update had a different purpose in itself.
Kernel algorithm update is a term used to refer directly to changes made to the basic algorithm search.
But the kernel update is a little different. Kernel updates are tweaks or changes made directly to the basic search algorithm. We know that there are between 200 and 500 signals or factors that determine a site’s position in a search result. Core update means that Google significantly updates the value, weight, or order of these signals. Therefore, they have no way of explaining to people what they changed in the algorithm without revealing their hidden formulas.

Let’s assume that there are two hundred factors that Google ranks according to their importance and that 35 of these two hundred factors made a change in importance. The order of the sites in the search results will of course change. But these changes will result from a combination of many different variables, not just one cause or factor. Of course, the situation is not as simple as in this example. But it can be said that it is a good way to understand in a simpler way what a kernel update is.
Google will not give the site owners details such as “In this update, we increased the importance of keywords in h1 tags by 7%, while reducing the value of keywords in title tags by 18%.” Google, every day; It makes new updates to improve search results. Some of these updates focus on improvements at specific points, while some are large-scale updates. A major kernel update was made last week, and these updates are made regularly several times a year.

How Does an Update Work?
As with any update, some sites may experience drops or rises in their rankings. This situation has nothing to do with the lower or lower performance of the site than before. Only the effect of changing some parameters can be mentioned. Therefore, the only thing that needs to be done to prevent the seen drops is to continue to have good content on your website.
What Should I Do About Updating?
Google’s suggestion to Seo experts for website owners regarding the new update is that they should not make any changes. While many publishers and advertising experts find this recommendation somewhat unacceptable, it can be said that Google actually gave the correct advice.
The basic suggestions of Google regarding the update can be listed as follows;
